Spanish publication 'Sport' reports that the club have opted not to pursue their interest in the Schalke man, despite him being able to discuss a pre-contract in just two weeks' time.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a fine 2017, establishing himself in the German national side and becoming one of the most highly-rated midfielders in world football.
His talent, combined with his current contract situation led to reported interest from a throng of top European side including Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham, however it appears that he is not destined for the Camp Nou.
The aforementioned source suggests that the reason for Barca's decision to pull out of a move is an economic one, with other club reportedly prepared to blow Barca's wages out of the water due to the lack or a transfer fee.
Meanwhile, the Catalan side can already count on the talents of Sergi Roberto in midfield, a player who himself has drawn comparisons with Goretzka.
