According to 'Goal.com' the Catalan giants have already opened negotiations with Guangzhou Evergrande over the signing of Paulinho.
The signing of Paulinho is said to be one of Barca's priorities this summer, as the club look to refresh their midfield ranks.
Talks over a deal are said to have begun this week, though they are very much still in the early stages and as such no deal is imminent.
Barcelona allegedly tried to sign the midfielder back in 2013 following the Confederations Cup, but a deal had already been agreed between Tottenham and Corinthians.
The 28-year-old joined the Chinese side in 2015 and has scored 14 goals in 55 games for the club, winning 5 trophies in the process. The Brazilian even played against Barcelona in the semi-final of the Club World Cup back in 2015.
The Catalans are understood to be working hard to push through a deal.
