If Ozil were to move to Manchester United in the summer it would mean he would be reunited with Jose Mourinho, after the pair worked together at Real Madrid.
The German midfielder is reportedly keen to run down his contract, which expires at the end of the season, meaning he would be available for a free transfer in the summer.
Arsenal team-mate Alexis Sanchez is in an identical contract situation and has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but it is reportedly more likely to end up at Pep Guardiola's Man City, possibly in the January transfer window.
However, according to the aforementioned source, Ozil's advisors have been investigating a possible move to Manchester United and the feedback has been encouraging.
Mourinho is a big fan of the 28-year-old and would encourage the United board to make a move for the player, who could not cost the club a transfer fee.
The lack of the transfer fee would free up funds so the United can meet the German playmaker's contract demands, who has been asking for around £250,000 from his current club, with the Gunners are currently unwilling to match that figure.
Ozil is reportedly also attracting interest from Inter Milan, but would favour a move which would see him staying in the Premier League and moving to a club with a realistic chance of winning major trophies.
It would certainly be a huge blow to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, seeing another one of their stars leave for one of their Premier League rivals, especially on a free transfer.
