Sergio Aguero's diminishing importance to Man City

The Argentine started the game at the Vitality Stadium on the bench and truth be told, ever since the Guardiola's arrival at the Etihad, it has felt like Aguero simply did not fit in.

The Spaniard started to pick youngster Gabriel Jesus in place of fan-favourite Aguero last season, only for a broken metatarsal to end the 20-year-old's season prematurely.

Guardiola has spent much of this summer affirming that Aguero is not for sale and that he is looking forward to using Aguero and Jesus up front together this season, but Saturday's game showed us that when it comes to a one-man strike force, the Brazilian is the former Barca boss' preferred option.

Jesus impressive perfomances, the game against Bournemouth included, have seen him contribute eight goals and four assists to City's cause in just 11 starts for the club. As impressive as Aguero's record is, it cannot compete with that.

What's more, question marks still persist over Aguero's attitude, with the 29-year-old reportedly refusing to warm up before the game against Bournemouth.

With City reportedly still hopeful of sealing a deal for Alexis Sanchez before next week's deadline, could Sergio Aguero be suprisingly sacrificed?
