Giroud left Arsenal for a 'new challenge'

Giroud made his full debut against West Brom on Monday, as the 'Blues' put three past the Midlands side. Giroud impressed, assisting Eden Hazard for the first of his two goals. 

The Frenchman made the short journey from the Emirates to Stamford Bridge on the January transfer deadline day, costing Chelsea £18million. If he had stayed with Arsenal he would have found himself below new signing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, as well as last summer's arrival Alexandre Lacazette.

The 31-year-old stated that the lack of games he would have got under Arsene Wenger was a key factor in his decision to move to Chelsea, saying: "It's been a while since I played regularly and that's why I needed to move. I needed a new challenge and Chelsea was the perfect club for me."

"It's the Premier League, a club which has won more titles in the past ten years than any other", he explained. "It's a massive club and I am very proud to be here and to carry on my career in the Premier League. I had five amazing years there (Arsenal), but now it's a new chapter of my career and I am focused 100 per cent on the Blues to reach our targets. I'm very happy to be here."

He expressed his excitement to be competing on all fronts with Conte's team, saying: "I am back in the FA Cup and the Champions League, and we are going to take the games step by step. We want to qualify in the FA Cup and then we have big games to come against Barcelona in the Champions League and then Manchester United and Manchester City away."

Giroud will be hoping to continue his good start at Chelsea, and may well get another chance to impress when Chelsea host Hull City in the FA Cup on Friday.
