The Champions League holders need their striker at his best, after a disappointing 2017. Benzema has been short of confidence this season, constantly questioning himself, with his year ending in the worst possible fashion: a defeat and injury in December's 'El Clasico'. But now the Frenchman is back and hopefully here to stay.
Benzema is not alone in aiming for a return to top form, with manager Zinedine Zidane and the player's Real team-mates also hoping for the same outcome. 'Los Blancos' are struggling infront of goal, a pressing concern that needs to be changed quickly with their first leg of the Champions League against PSG fast approaching.
What Real don't want is a return of the Benzema they had for the first-half of this season: scoring five goals in 20 appearances, which is far too inconsistent for a Madrid number 9. In addition, he has failed to lay on the high number of assists which the team has become accustomed to.
The best thing for the French striker is to put everything in the past, with the opportunity now to hit the ground running in Thursday's Copa del Rey first-leg clash against Leganes.
