All the talk pre-match had been about whether Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata would start in the semi-final, and although Giroud was the man favoured from kick-off, both forwards got their name on the scoresheet.
Morata came on to replace goalscorer Giroud in the 81st minute, with his side leading 1-0, and within one minute he had already made his impact.
The Spaniard rose high to meet a cross from compatriot Cesar Azpilicueta in the 82nd minute, nodding it past Alex McCarthy to make it 2-0 in the semi.
His goal crushed Southampton's hopes of a comeback, after Mark Hughes' side had been pushing for an equaliser, and it ultimately sealed victory for Chelsea, who progressed to the final.
